Where I come from shapes how I show up
I'm a non-binary, queer Muslim immigrant from Pakistan, and I've called Canada home since I was six years old. My work is deeply rooted in trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive care, with a strong commitment to equity, accessibility, and collective healing.
As the founder of Zameen Counselling, I've built a virtual practice serving clients across Canada. At its core, Zameen is about creating care that is not only clinically effective, but also safe, affirming, and accessible — especially for those who have historically been underserved by traditional mental health systems. This includes offering sliding scale options and intentionally designing systems that prioritize client dignity, privacy, and continuity of care.
My clinical work is shaped by experience across community health, crisis response, and psychotherapy settings. My most recent role involved providing trauma-informed therapy with refugee clients in a primary care environment. I have previously held roles supporting youth experiencing homelessness, survivors of gender-based violence, and 2SLGBTQ+ communities. Across these spaces, I've worked alongside interdisciplinary teams to support complex needs with care, collaboration, and respect.
Therapy that meets you where you are
I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches — while always centering your lived experience, cultural context, and goals. My approach is flexible and relational: I believe therapy should meet you where you are, not the other way around.
Whether we're processing trauma, building coping skills, exploring identity, or navigating family and relational dynamics, the work is always grounded in your experience and shaped by what feels meaningful to you.
Research, teaching, and advocacy
Beyond clinical practice, I bring a strong background in research, teaching, and community leadership. My work has explored topics such as reproductive health, human trafficking, and the experiences of queer Muslims in social services, and has been presented at national conferences.
I've also led equity-focused initiatives in academic and community spaces, organizing large-scale events and advocating for systemic change through an intersectional, anti-racist lens.
